As CEO of Cincinnati Museum Center and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and as the head of operations at Conner Prairie Doug McDonald has been a leader in four museum accreditations. Accreditation increases a museum’s credibility and value to funders, policy makers, insurers, community and peers. Accreditation is a powerful tool to leverage change and helps facilitate loans between institutions.

Cincinnati Museum Center was awarded the 2009 National Medal of Museum Service by the Institute of Museum & Library Services. In making the award, IMLS stated, “The Cincinnati Museum Center is a national model of excellence as an educational and cultural complex that has successfully merged cultural institutions under the historic Union Terminal’s great half-dome. The combined Cincinnati History Museum, Museum of Natural History and Science, the Duke Energy Children’s Museum, the Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX® Theatre, the Cincinnati Historical Society Library & Archives, the Geier Family Collections & Research Center, and the Richard & Lucile Durrell Edge of Appalachia Preserve represent the largest cultural institution in the city and the most visited museum in Ohio.”
